Dec. 28: Huskers lighten up; Tigers go hard.

Nebraska went through a light practice Monday while LSU did heavy hitting in a two-hour scrimmage.

It was the Huskers’ final practice at Miami-Dade Junior College North before operations moved to the Orange Bowl stadium in preparation for Friday night’s game.

Cornerback Joe Blahak was practicing again after leaving Sunday’s practice with leg cramps, but split end Guy Ingles again avoided overworking an ailing leg.

Both teams made players and coaches available to the press, and the tandem quarterbacks of both squads were not an overlooked angle in the next day’s newspapers. Nebraska’s Van Brownson said he was “ready to play if needed,” despite his trouble with injuries. Two stalwarts of the Nebraska defense, linebacker Jerry Murtaugh and middle guard Ed Periard, merited write-ups in the Miami Herald and Miami News.
