Lincoln, Neb. — Brandi Jeffery produced another impressive performance, scoring No. 16 Nebraska's first 10 points to lead the Huskers to a 20-point halftime edge on their way to an 83-49 women's basketball win over Alcorn State Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Jeffery, who led Nebraska in the opener with a career-high 19 points, finished with 11 points to help Nebraska improve to 2-0 on the young season.

The 5-7 senior guard from Vacherie, La., closed the first weekend of competition by averaging a team-best 15.0 points to go along with 5.0 rebounds in just 24 minutes per game.

Junior guard Rachel Theriot scored eight points in the first 3:30 of the second half to lead the Huskers with a game-high 18 points. Theriot, a 6-0 All-American point guard, hit 7-of-9 shots from the field for the second straight game, while adding five rebounds and five assists. Theriot averaged 17 points while shooting 77.8 percent from the floor on the weekend.

Senior guard Tear'a Laudermill pitched in 12 points and two rebounds, while junior forward Anya Kalenta came off the bench to add 10 points and seven boards.

Senior forward Hailie Sample played a strong game as well, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor. Sample was 7-of-7 from the field on the opening weekend.

For the second straight game, Nebraska's five starters combined to shoot nearly 70 percent from the field, going a collective 22-of-32 while hitting 6-of-9 three-pointers.

As a team, Nebraska finished at 44.6 percent from the field, including 56.7 percent (17-30) in the first half. NU went 8-for-19 (.421) from long range and hit a solid 81 percent (17-21) of its free throws. The Huskers outrebounded Alcorn State, 47-29, and won the turnover battle, 19-14. NU committed just one turnover in the second half.

Nebraska led 46-26 at the half, thanks to 10 points from Jeffery in the game's first four minutes and double figures from Laudermill in the first 14 minutes.

The Huskers took their largest lead in the game at 38 points after the second three-pointer by the 6-3 Kalenta made it 78-40 with 6:52 left.

Olivia Brown led Alcorn State with a game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, while Jazmin Strane added 11 points, including 3-of-4 shooting from three-point range.

As a team, Alcorn State hit 33.9 percent (19-56) of its shots, including 4-of-12 threes and 7-of-8 free throws.

Nebraska will hit the road for the first time when the Huskers take on Washington State in Pullman on Wednesday. Tip-off at Friel Court is set for 10 p.m. (central) with live television coverage by the Pac-12 Network.
