Iowa City, Iowa. — The fourth-ranked Nebraska volleyball team began Big Ten play with a 25-23, 25-20, 25-23 sweep at Iowa on Wednesday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The Huskers improved to 10-1 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten with their seventh straight win. Kadie Rolfzen led NU with 14 kills and 10 digs. She had a .387 hitting percentage. Amber Rolfzen added 10 kills, while Mikaela Foecke had seven kills. Kelly Hunter had 40 assists, and Justine Wong-Orantes and Annika Albrecht each had 11 digs.

Iowa dropped to 10-4 and 0-1 in the Big Ten while their eight-match win streak came to an end. Lauren Brobst led the Hawkeyes with 16 kills.

The Huskers hit .284 for the match while holding Iowa to .243.

The Hawkeyes captured momentum in the first set with a 7-0 run to go up 17-10, courtesy of four unforced Husker hitting errors and a serve receive error. After a timeout, the Huskers regrouped with a 7-0 run of their own to tie the set at 17-17, led by three Kadie Rolfzen kills. After Iowa briefly regained the lead, Kadie Rolfzen got another kill, followed by two Iowa hitting errors for a 20-18 Husker lead. The Huskers held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-23. Rolfzen had eight kills and hit .615 in the set.

Iowa returned to being the aggressor when set two began by staking a 6-1 lead. The Huskers again found success after a timeout, however, charging back to tie it 6-6 with Kadie Rolfzen getting two more kills and Foecke adding a kill and solo block. Nebraska never trailed after going up 8-7 but never led by more than two until a 4-0 run gave them breathing room at 22-17. The Huskers hit .444 in set two for the 25-20 win.

The Huskers built an 18-12 lead in the third set, but Iowa used a 6-0 run to tie it 20-20 as the Huskers struggled from the service line. The teams traded rallies until back-to-back kills by Foecke and Albrecht made it 24-22. Amber Rolfzen sealed the win with the final kill.

The teams will meet up again on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The match will be streamed on HuskersNSide.
