The Huskers (7-1) were sharp from start to finish in their second match of the day after sweeping South Florida in the morning. The Yellow Jackets (9-2) began the match just one hour removed from beating UC Davis, 3-2.
Freshman Mikaela Foecke led the Huskers with 12 kills and a .632 hitting percentage with no errors. For the tournament, she totaled 37 kills and hit .550 to earn tournament MVP honors. Kadie Rolfzen added eight kills and eight digs along with four blocks for the Big Red. NU tallied 11 blocks on the night, led by Amber Rolfzen's eight. Foecke also had four. Kadie Rolfzen and NU libero Justine Wong-Orantes were also all-tournament team members.
Setter Kelly Hunter had 30 assists, nine digs and five kills. Nebraska hit .389 as a team and held Georgia Tech to a season-low .110.
The Huskers were on fire in the first set, producing 17 kills with no errors on 25 attacks for a .680 hitting percentage. Six different Huskers had at least two kills, while Foecke had four kills on four attacks.
After Georgia Tech went up 3-1 in the second, NU went on a 9-0 run to take a 10-3 lead. Sydney Townsend served the run, which included three Husker blocks. Nebraska finished the set with five blocks, with Amber and Kadie Rolfzen each combining in three of them.
The Huskers clung to a 15-14 lead in the third set before 4-0 run made it 19-14, led by a Foecke and Amber Rolfzen kill, as well as a block by the duo.
The Huskers hit .391 in the Ameritas Players Challenge and held their opponents to a combined .167 hitting percentage.
Nebraska will now get set for an in-state showdown with Creighton on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha.
