Huskers Fight Off Badgers in 3-1 Victory

Madison, Wis. — The No. 11 Nebraska volleyball team (18-4, 11-2) fought off the No. 16 Wisconsin Badgers 3-1 (18-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-19) on Friday night at the UW Field House. Nebraska came back to win three straight sets after falling to the Badgers in the opening set.

Kelsey Robinson produced another stellar night as she recorded a double-double with 21 kills and 13 digs. She tallied 19 kills in the final three sets, including 10 in the third set alone. Kadie Rolfzen also notched a double-double on the night with a career-high-tying 19 kills and a match-high 17 digs. Mary Pollmiller notched 50 assists, while Cecilia Hall led NU with eight blocks.

The Huskers hit .248 for the match, while Wisconsin hit .208. NU out-blocked Wisconsin 11-8 and out-dug UW 63-62.

Wisconsin opened the first set with a 7-1 lead and forced the Huskers to call an early timeout. A service ace from Pollmiller cut into the Badgers' lead at 13-7, but Wisconsin then went up 19-12. Kadie Rolfzen propelled NU with three kills to make it 21-17, UW. NU pushed Wisconsin to two set points, but the Badgers held on to win the first set 25-18.

Kadie Rolfzen led NU with six kills in the first set, while Mary Pollmiller handed out 11 assists. Nebraska hit .152 for the set and Wisconsin hit .306. Each team had two blocks.

Wisconsin went up again early in the second set, but a block from Kadie Rolfzen and Hall cut into the Badgers' lead at 6-4. A kill from Hall made it 13-12, Wisconsin, as the Huskers chipped into the Badger lead, eventually taking a 17-16 advantage after two attack errors from UW. A block from Pollmiller and Hall put the Huskers up 20-18 and a kill from Amber Rolfzen sealed the 25-20 second-set win.

Amber Rolfzen and Robinson both had three kills in the second set. Nebraska's block came alive as Hall notched five, helping Nebraska to five team blocks. Wisconsin failed to record a team block in the set and hit .000, while the Huskers hit .139.

Nebraska returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 10 as the Huskers will face the Minnesota Gophers. The match is slated for 3:30 p.m.

The Huskers opened the third set with three straight points, while a kill from Robinson put NU up 9-7. Nebraska came out ahead after a long rally, a kill from Robinson and block from Robinson and Keil, making it 12-11, NU, and forcing Wisconsin to call a timeout. Back-to-back kills from Robinson put the Huskers up 20-18 and Nebraska went on to win the third set 25-23.

Robinson tallied 10 kills in the third set, while Kadie Rolfzen had seven. Pollmiller dished out 19 assists as the Huskers hit .366 as a team. Wisconsin hit .353 and out-blocked NU 3-2.

Robinson helped the Huskers to a 5-3 lead early in the fourth set, while a kill from Kadie Rolfzen and an error by the Badgers put NU up 11-7. The Huskers continued to use the momentum to their advantage, going up 15-9. Kadie Rolfzen made it 18-13, Nebraska, while an ace from Robinson helped the Huskers win the fourth set 25-19 and the match 3-1.

Robinson posted six kills in the final set, while Kadie Rolfzen had five. Pollmiller notched 11 assists as the Huskers hit .314 and Wisconsin hit just .237.
