Indianapolis, IN. — Nebraska's frantic comeback fell just short, as the Huskers fell No. 18 Maryland, 97-86, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament.

Nebraska (16-18) rallied back from a 25-point deficit to within 92-86 after a 3-pointer from Andrew White III with 1:38 remaining. On the next possession, the Huskers got a miss from Damonte Dodd and had the rebound and a chance to make it a one-possession game, but a foul on Glynn Watson Jr. gave Maryland the ball.

The Huskers would get no closer, as Maryland went 5-of-6 from the line in the final minute to hold on and advance to Saturday's semifinal against Michigan State.

The Huskers, playing their third game in as many days, were led by Andrew White III, who finished with 25 points, including five 3-pointers to pace four Huskers in double figures. Shavon Shields added 19 points, while Tai Webster and Watson Jr. added 17 and 10 markers, respectively.

Maryland, which shot 60.3 percent including 13-of-22 from 3-point range, were led by Jake Layman's 26-points, as he had 17 in the first half, as Maryland built a 17-point halftime lead.

The Huskers, who won two conference tournament games for the first time in 10 years, will wait to see if they will continue their season next week.

Maryland was lights out in the first half, shooting 71 percent from the field, including 9-of-10 from 3-point range to take a 54-37 lead into the half. Jake Layman had 17 first-half points for Maryland, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range, while Diamond Stone had 10 points and five boards in the opening 20 minutes.

Layman got the Terrapins going, hitting three early 3-pointers in the first 3:20, as Maryland built a 12-4 lead. Nebraska battled back behind Andrew White III, as he had four straight points to pull NU within 12-9 with 15:40 left in the half.

The Huskers were within 20-16 after a Jack McVeigh 3-pointer, but Maryland used a 13-2 spurt to build a 33-18 lead after a Robert Carter Jr. jumper with 8:21 left in the half. NU kept battling, getting to with 38-28 after five straight points by Tai Webster, but the Terrapins went on an 8-0 surge, pushing its led to 46-28 after Layman's fifth 3-pointer of the half. Maryland led by as much as 21. But two Shavon Shields free throws and a Glynn Watson Jr. steal and layup cut the lead to 17 as the break.

Maryland, which hit 13 of its first 17 3-pointers, led 70-45 with 15:46 left before the Huskers rallied. Tai Webster and Ed Morrow Jr. keyed an 8-0 spurt to pull the Huskers within 70-53. The Huskers cut the deficit to 14, at 75-62 with just over 10 minutes left, but Maryland ran off eight straight points to push the lead back to 19.

Trailing 88-67 with 7:34 left, White keyed the comeback, hitting eight points in a 19-4 run to pull the Huskers to its closest margin since midway through the first half, but the Huskers' rally fell just short.

Andrew White III finished with a team-high 25 points, his eighth 20-point game of the year. He also finished with five 3-pointers, upping his total to 87 on the year. He moved past Ray Gallegos (82, 2013) for second place tonight and is one shy of NU's single-season record

The 13 3-pointers by Maryland were a season-high by a Husker opponent (previous high was 11)

Benny Parker appeared in his 130th game tonight, which is one shy of the Huskers career reocrd

Shavon Shields made his 112th start tonight, passing Dave Hoppen for second on NU's career starts list

Shields finished with 19 points, matching Aleks Maric (1,630 points) for fifth place on NU's career scoring list

Shields reached double figures for the 16th consecutive game, the longest streak of his career.

Nebraska finished with four players in double figures, the third time this week NU had at least four in double figures

The 97 points allowed and 60.3 percent field goal shooting were season highs against Nebraska.

Nine of NU's 18 losses have been to ranked teams

Nebraska scored 80 or more points for the second time in three game and the ninth time this season.

With 11 threes tonight, Nebraska has hit 220 this season, fifth-most in school history.

Shields moved into ninth-most points scored by a Husker senior with 503 this season.

With 10 points, Glynn Watson Jr. scored 292 points this season, the eighth-most points ever by a Nebraska freshman.
