Lincoln, Neb. — Despite a team-high 16 points from both Jack McVeigh and Andrew White III, Nebraska fell to Indiana, 79-69, at Pinnacle Bank Arena Saturday afternoon.

The Huskers (8-7, 0-2 Big Ten) led 39-36 at the break, but Indiana shot 60 percent in the second half, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range to earn the victory.

Yogi Ferrell led all scorers with 24 points, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, while Thomas Bryant added 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting to pace the Hoosier attack. Indiana (12-2, 2-0 Big Ten) shot 55 percent from the field and went 9-of-18 from 3-point range.

McVeigh shined off the bench for the Big Red, hitting 6-of-8 shots from the floor and grabbing a career-high six rebounds, while White also finished with 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.

Indiana took the lead in the back-and-forth contest with a 16-3 run after Nebraska got to within 50-49 after a White 3-pointer. Ferrell scored eight of his 15 second-half points in the spurt that was capped by his 3-pointer with 9:09 left to make it 65-53.

The Huskers would not go quietly, as Shavon Shields scored five straight points, helping NU slice the deficit to six points after a Benny Parker free throw with 7:11 left.

Jack McVeigh scored 16 points for the Huskers.

Trailing 72-61, the Huskers made one last run, scoring five straight points to pull within 72-66 with one minute left and was within 74-69 after McVeighs third 3-pointer of the game with 40 seconds left. Max Bielfeldt split a pair of free throws to make it a six-point game, and NU got White a good look from 3-point range, but the shot missed and the Hoosiers salted the game away at the free throw line.

Nebraska put four players in double figures, as Shields and Benny Parker added 10 each in the loss.

The Huskers used solid shooting and balance to take a 39-36 lead into the locker room. Nebraska shot 52 percent in the first half while eight of the nine players who saw action got on the scoreboard.

Nebraska put together an 8-0 run to erase a three-point deficit and take a 25-20 lead after a Parker putback, only to see Indiana come back with eight straight points of their own.

Trailing 28-25, Nebraska used 3-pointers from Parker and McVeigh as part of an 9-2 run that gave NU a 36-30 lead after a pair of White free throws with 2:06 left in the half. Nebraska took a 39-34 lead after McVeighs second 3-pointer of the game before Yogi Ferrells jumper with six seconds left in the half cut the Husker lead to three.

The Huskers return to action Tuesday night, as Nebraska travels to Iowa City for a matchup with the Cyclones. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. and the game will be carried on the Husker Sports Network and televised on BTN.
