ISU pop's the bubble for the Huskres in OT.

Ames, Iowa — Lance Jeter had a career-high 27 points, including a 3-pointer to send it into overtime, but Diante Garrett's driving basket with 1:06 remaining broke a 79-all deadlock, as Iowa State handed Nebraska a heartbreaking 83-82 defeat Saturday afternoon.

Jeter willed the Huskers back from an eight-point second-half deficit, scoring nine of his 14-second-half points in the final five minutes of regulation, hitting a 3-pointer from the wing with 3.4 seconds left to tie the score at 72-all.

The senior point guard played one of the best games of his career, totaling 27 points, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds and dishing out five assists as the Huskers fell to 18-10 on the year and 6-8 in Big 12 action.

In the extra session, Nebraska trailed 77-74 before a Jeter basket and a 3-pointer by Toney McCray with 2:16 remaining gave the Huskers their first lead since the first half at 79-77. Iowa State (15-14, 2-12 Big 12) tied the score at 79 on Melvin Ejim's basket on their next possession before Garrett, who finished with 17 points and nine rebounds while playing all 45 minutes, gave the Cyclones the lead for good.

Garrett's 17 points led five Cyclones in double figures, as the Cyclones shot 51 percent, including 10-of-21 from 3-point range.

Jorge Brian Diaz and McCray joined Jeter in double figures, as Diaz had a season-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the year, while McCray had 14 points, including three 3-pointers as Nebraska hit a season-high 12 3-pointers in the loss.

Iowa State built a 49-41 lead after a Garrett basket with 14:13 remaining before Nebraska went inside on a 5-0, getting baskets from Diaz and Almeida to pull within 49-46. The Huskers continued to battle, working the offensive boards and pulling within 59-55 after a McCray 3-pointer from the top of the key.

Iowa State quickly responded, getting a pair of Ejim baskets to push the lead back to eight before the Huskers fought back, as a Diaz jumper and a McCray 3-pointer with 5:42 left sliced the lead to 63-60. Iowa State led 68-63 with 2:47 left, but the 3-point play by Jeter with 2:17 left pulled NU within two points. The Huskers kept chipping away, as Brandon Ubel's free throw with 35 seconds left made it a one-point game.

Iowa State, which was a perfect 12-for-12 from the line in the second half and 19-of-22 for the game, eventually pushed their lead to 72-67 after a pair of Garrett free throws before Jeter's 3-pointer tied it at 72. The Cyclones had a shot to win it in regulation, but Garrett's 3-pointer missed at the buzzer.

The first half was played at a fast pace, as Iowa State hit 50 percent from the floor, including 8-of-13 from 3-point range, to take an eight point halftime lead at the break.

The Huskers shot well from the floor early on, hitting seven of their first nine shots from the floor to build an 18-13 lead after Caleb Walker's second 3-pointer of the game. Iowa State came right back with a 7-0 spurt of their own, regaining the lead at 20-18 after a Bubu Palo 3-pointer before Brandon Richardson's 3-pointer snapped the Cyclone spurt.

The teams traded the lead, as Walker and Jeter combined to hit 5-of-7 from 3-point range in the first half to help the Huskers hit seven 3-pointers in the half. Nebraska was within 34-33 after a Richardson 3-pointer, but the Cyclones closed the half with seven straight points, capped by long Scott Christopherson 3-pointer to give ISU a 41-33 lead.

The Huskers return home on Tuesday night, as Nebraska hosts Missouri at 7 p.m. The Huskers will honor seniors Drake Beranek, Matt Karn and Lance Jeter in pregame ceremonies and will celebrate great moments in conference history with a special halftime ceremony.
