Sooners knock off No. 1 Huskers

Third-ranked Oklahoma overcame an early two-touchdown deficit by exploding for 24 points in the second quarter and stymied the vaunted offense of No. 1 Nebraska the rest of the way en route to a 31-14 triumph at Owen Field.

The Cornhuskers (7-1, 4-1 Big 12), who entered the day ranked second in the nation in total offense (499.3 ypg), scored touchdowns on their first two possessions and had 192 yards in the opening 15 minutes but then were forced into five straight punting situations.

Josh Norman scored on an eight-yard end around with 2:41 to play in the first half to cap Oklahoma’s second-quarter outburst. Norman blocked a punt to set up an earlier touchdown.

The Sooners (7-0, 4-0) broke a seven-game losing streak in the historic series between Big 12 Conference rivals.

Commentary

Colonel Mustard

We never could get pressure on Heupel and couldn't come up with any ideas to create it.

Shatel

The way Solich seemed to panic in the second and third quarters set a tone that turned this game from something special into an anticlimactic blowout.

It's absolutely mind-boggling that Nebraska was unable to score after the first quarter.

Let's face it, you don't go on the road and whip the No. 2 team (Kansas State) and then came back from a 14-0 hole against the top dog because you're lucky.

With all due respect to the incredible talents of Nebraska signal-caller Eric Crouch, Heupel is The Man.

NU's display Saturday was uninspiring and just another example this season of other teams closing the gap with the Huskers.

Wagons and Sooners are rolling again. And the Cornhuskers are mortal.

Oklahoma's inspired defenders were truly the difference in this battle.

The Huskers self-destructed in the worst way in the second quarter.

It's time to end the Vick madness and believe The Heup.

Stoops is an ice man. He wouldn't lose his cool in a house fire. His teams and his quarterback play like it.

The Cornhuskers chose to blitz Heupel. They got away with it for a quarter.

Cowlishaw

This game was scoreless and nearly drama-less the final 25 minutes. The Cornhuskers were clueless for much longer than that.
