Huskers notch convincing win in Seattle

A week after a sluggish performance against Central Florida, the Huskers were one-touchdown underdogs at No. 2 Washington but set the tone early in an impressive 27-14 victory.

Washington took the opening kickoff and marched deep into Husker territory, but the Blackshirt defense stiffened and forced a missed field goal attempt. Nebraska turned to its power running game and marched 80 yards in six plays capped by a 34-yard run by Scott Frost.

On NU’s next series, the Huskers again ran successfully right at the UW defense, marching 56 yards in 10 plays, capped by a 30-yard Frost run. Midway through the second quarter, Ahman Green’s four-yard TD run pushed the Husker lead to 21-0.

Washington later rallied to within 21-14, scoring a touchdown just before halftime and another TD in the third quarter, but Nebraska monopolized the clock in the fourth quarter, marching for two Kris Brown field goals to clinch the win.

Nebraska rolled up 472 yards on offense, including 384 on the ground. On defense, the Huskers recorded four quarterback sacks and 13 QB hurries.

It just might rank as one of our five most important wins ever. We are back.

Substance over style. On Saturday, Frost had big-time substance. This is where he got it done.

Forget about any dissension among the ranks. Frost ... is now officially one of the boys. A certified leader.

Saturday's 27-14 upset win over No. 2 Washington was more than just a good win for Nebraska. It put Cornhusker football back on the map.

This was textbook Nebraska football, a textbook that was written sometime around 1950.

The Huskies couldn’t handle either of Nebraska’s front lines, a fatal flaw compounded by inadequate preparation and muddled decisions.

Nebraskans apparently aren't the forgive-and-forget type. They're more like Missourians: Show Me. Frost showed them, all right. He showed Washington too.
