Official recap
Both defenses dominated early on as the seventh-ranked Huskers visited Manhattan, Kan., to take on 16th-ranked Kansas State in Nebraska's first-ever Big 12 Conference game.

The Huskers jumped in front 6-0 in the first quarter on two Kris Brown field goals, but the Wildcats cut the lead in half with a field goal of their own in the second period. Nebraska put together an impressive 17-play, 80-yard drive midway through the second quarter to take a 12-3 advantage.

NU closed the half with an 18-3 lead after Brown added two more field goals, including a career-best 50-yarder as the first-half clock expired.

In the second half, it was all Nebraska as NU added three touchdowns for a 39-3 victory.

The Husker Blackshirt defense held K-State in check. The Wildcats had zero total yards at halftime, 18 after three quarters and just 86 for the entire game. The defensive charge was led by linebackers Terrell Farley, Jamel Williams and Jon Hesse, who each registered five tackles.

Offensively, the game was a homecoming for true freshman I-back DeAngelo Evans, a native of Wichita, Kan. He rushed for 168 yards on 21 carries and had touchdown runs of 69 and five yards.

The game NU's 28th straight victory over the Wildcats and 24th consecutive conference win.
