Official recap
Off to its worst start (1-2) since 1960 and playing before a record non-conference crowd at Memorial Stadium (76,423), Nebraska came up empty in the first half and found itself at the short end of a 3-0 score against Auburn.
However, the Huskers shook off fumble problems in one of the rainiest games in years, began to take advantage of Auburn fumbles, and scored 17 second-half points to post a 17-3 win over the visitors from the Southeastern Conference. Auburn had taken its lead on a 52-yard first-quarter field goal by Al Del Greco, while the frustrated Huskers saw two first-half drives end inside the Tiger 10.
In the second half, though, Nebraska scored on its first two possessions (a 39-yard field goal by Kevin Seibel and a three-yard run by Roger Craig), recovered four Auburn fumbles, and iced the game late in the fourth quarter on an eight-yard run by Turner Gill.
