 Official recap After an early scare by the Horned Frogs, Nebraska took advantage of seven TCU turnovers, a strong rushing attack, and the pinpoint passing of Vince Ferragamo to roll to a 64-10 win.
As 74,981 fans viewed Nebraska's first home game, TCU led Nebraska in the early going. A recovery of a TCU fumble of a Nebraska punt and an 87 yard punt return for a touchdown by Dave Butterfield put Nebraska ahead 14-10 at the quarter. From that point on it was all Nebraska. Ferragamo tied the school record of four touchdown passes in a single game, and he did it all in the first half as Nebraska built a 38-10 lead.
TCU managed 26 yards total offense in the second half while Nebraska scored 26 more points to make the final score 64-10.
Seventy-six players saw action for Nebraska as coach Tom Osborne gave everyone a chance to play. Byron Stewart, a fifth string I-back going into the game, led Nebraska in rushing with 64 yards on 13 carries. Ferragamo continued his pinpoint passing by hitting 15 of 23 passes for 218 yards.
