Husker use strong start to top Cyclones

Nebraska popped Iowa State for a 14-0 lead and battled through to a solid 24-13 win before a record 29,000 fans.

The Huskers took the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards to score, with Joe Orduna getting the last two yards and the TD.

In the second quarter, the Huskers converted a Cyclone fumble at the ISU 22 into a quick TD and a 14-0 lead. The Cyclones came back to score, but an Ernie Sigler to Tom Penney pass capped a sensational 71-yard drive in the last 1:24 of the half and Nebraska had a 21-7 lead.

Late in the game Iowa State pulled up 21-13 and recovered a subsequent onside kick, but Nebraska held and added the icing on the victory when Paul Rogers kicked a 28-yard field goal.
