Sept. 27, 2016 – Illinois @ Nebraska week – Huskers in the NFL

Welcome, Husker Nation, to the first-ever weekly Update on the Huskers in the NFL Edition of the Carriker Chronicles. This is something I’ll be doing every week going forward, every Tuesday.

The first Husker I want to update you on is Ameer Abdullah. Now unfortunately, Ameer just sustained a torn ligament in his ankle and his return is doubtful. In fact, he was just placed on IR, so the odds are he is going to be out for the rest of this season. But I have absolutely no doubt that the former two-time lifter of the year is going to come back as good as – if not better than – ever.

Let’s look at some of the things he’s done since he left Nebraska. He went down to Mobile, Alabama, and played in the Senior Bowl and won the Senior Bowl MVP award. Then he was a second-round draft pick for the Detroit Lions.

I’ve got some stats here and I’ve got his sheet, so I want to make sure I get this right. In his first game ever he came out with a bang – the dual threat back that we know that he is. He went head to head with Melvin Gordon and really outplayed him. He had 94 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in his first-ever NFL game. In 2015 he was the NFL kickoff return yards Leader for the entire league with over 1,000 yards. He was also named the 2015 Detroit Lions Rookie of the Year. To date he has almost 700 career rushing yards and 240 career receiving yards. So far this season as the Lions’ feature back he was averaging 5.6 yards per carry until he got hurt. And in case you’re not aware, that’s pretty good.

I spoke briefly to Ameer and he had a message he wanted me to relay to Husker Nation. He said “I’m keeping up with them (meaning the Huskers) every weekend” and that “I’m proud.” And I have no doubt that he is. I wish you a speedy recovery, Ameer.

Now we do have some in-house Carriker Chronicles business to attend to. We need to announce the winners from last week’s raffle. This is the Facebook hat. This is the Twitter hat. From people who shared last Tuesday’s show on Facebook and retweeted last Tuesday’s show on Twitter. So let’s get right to it, let’s shake it up, let’s make this thing fair.

And on Facebook, I recognize this name because she’s in the Twitter hat for retweeting it and sharing it on Facebook: (I don’t know if you can see that) Chris Anderson. And then on Twitter we have a Mr. Bill Becker. So I hope you’re watching the show! Hit me up on the social media so we can get you your shirt.

Now for some reason if you didn’t win, keep tuning in each and every week because we will be giving away more future prizes.

I want to give away one more shirt to a very special woman who hit me up on Facebook. You may have noticed that we now have a transcript of these videos. And that’s because Kelli Woods, who’s a mad-fast typist and a big fan, hit me up and volunteered to do it. So show her some love on Facebook and she will be getting one of these shirts as well.

So until tomorrow on Wild Card Wednesday, when I could talk about anything (so be sure to tune in!), Go Big Red, and always remember to Throw the Bones!
