70 Huskers Named to Berringer Citizenship Team

Category: Football

Seventy Nebraska football players have been recognized for their work in the community by being named to the 23rd annual Brook Berringer Citizenship Team.

The group includes 40 repeat honorees and 30 first-time selections. Mohamed Barry, Pernell Jefferson, Reid Karel and Wyatt Mazour highlighted the group as each made his fifth appearance on the Berringer Citizenship Team, while Avery Anderson, Tony Butler, Ty Chaffin, JoJo Domann, Christian Gaylord, Todd Honas, Eric Lee Jr., Ben Stille and Jack Stoll were all recognized for the fourth time.

The Brook Berringer Citizenship Team was established by the Husker football program in honor of former Nebraska quarterback Brook Berringer, who died in a plane crash in April of 1996. Berringer was a member of NU’s back-to-back national championship teams in 1994 and 1995.

Berringer was also one of the most dedicated Husker volunteers in the community with youth, both in Nebraska and in his hometown of Goodland, Kan. The team honors players who display a similar love and dedication for volunteering in the community through Nebraska’s nationally recognized Life Skills program. The recipients have completed six or more service projects during the academic calendar year and are in good academic standing. Members of the Berringer Citizenship Team also earn a spot on the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team, which recognizes the community outreach efforts of all of Nebraska’s student-athletes, not just football student-athletes.
